Quinte Immigration Services is gearing up for its Refugee Task Forum in Belleville on Friday.
The one-day event will provide information and training to the individually sponsored groups who are or plan to host a Syrian family along with those who will provide first-line contact such as social services, health professionals, employment agencies and English teachers.
Paul Osbourne, President of Quinte Immigration Services, says the morning will consist of cultural sensitivity training.
There will also be presentations by Quinte Immigration, the Canadian Mental Health Association plus an expert panel will address planning for the future and integration of Syrian families in the labour market.
Osbourne says he’s aware there have been some misconceptions about the process and he’s hoping this event at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre will clear any of those up.
Osbourne adds the response for volunteers has been so great that they have had to stop taking names for the time being.
Another forum is set for the spring.
