An official “flood warning” has been issued for the Glen Ross and Frankford areas of Quinte West and the municipality is offering assistance.
The city of Quinte West has staff monitoring the situation in the two villages where flood waters of the Trent River continue to rise and fall.
Administrator Charlie Murphy says the city is providing pumps and sandbags.
Lower Trent Conservation spokesperson Marilyn Bucholtz says the problem is in the “reach” between Dam Six and Dam Seven.
Quinte West officials say residents living along Cooke Armstrong Road (downstream of Glen Ross) should pay careful attention to water levels as the accumulation of “frazil ice” may result in further ice jamming and rapid unpredictable increases in water levels.
The Trent-Severn Waterway is making operational changes to water control structures in the affected area in an effort to moderate rising water levels.
Mayor Jim Harrison stated that “the city will continue to be in contact with the LTC to monitor the water levels over into next week; we will provide updates to the public as new information becomes available.”
