Something has changed in Brighton, with Freedom of Information requests increasing from none in seven years to one in 2014 and nine in the past six months.
Councillor John Martinello says council needs to be more open and transparent in order to reduce the requests.
And the cost of requests is rather high according to one resident. She asked council to negotiate the fee down from $408.40, but council opted to leave things as is.
Councillor Mary Tadman said that if the municipality provides the information at a low cost, there’d be more and more requests and they might have to hire someone to look after them.
