A 23-year-old Belleville man Tasered by city police this afternoon is facing several charges after an alleged shoplifting at a grocery store.
Staff Sargeant Al Portt says officers were called to the grocery store on North Front near St. George Street where it’s reported the man took food items.
Portt says the security guard was tackled and thrown to the ground by the suspect. The guard is in hospital with neck and back injuries.
When officers caught up with the suspect he was in a vehicle near St. Charles Street and Moira Street East with a woman and baby.
A woman was arrested and a child was taken into the care of the Children’s Aid Society.
The man took off on foot, he was tasered and charged with assault causing bodily harm, resisting arrest and theft and breach of probation.
The man, who police are not naming, is in Belleville court for a bail hearing today.
