Quinte West council has signed off on a decision to buy a parcel of land at Dufferin Avenue and Carrying Place Road.
At its meeting Monday night, council opted to capitalize on the 20 acres land behind the former Quaker Oats plant on Dufferin for $250,000.
The goal is to make more property available for new industry and other business.
Chief Administrative Officer Charlie Murphy said the City has gotten to a point where they are down to 42 acres of industrial land.
Mayor Jim Harrison says this purchase will show the province the City is serious about acquiring more land.
While Harrison says he can’t divulge if any new businesses have been looking at Quinte West he says he knows some have been working with the government and some have been successful.
“Hope it what I have,” Harrison adds.
“This is one piece of the puzzle,” he said. “Council and the public will see additional acquisitions in the near future.
