The cost to have GSS Engineering Consultants Ltd. look oversee the wastewater department last year came in around $145,000, just slightly under budget, and GSS president Jeff Graham submitted an estimate for the first three months of 2016 or a further one-year contract for council to consider.
Graham told council Monday night that a contract extension was needed if council wishes to have GSS continue with the class environmental assessment and issues surrounding the high levels of ammonia.
For a three-month extension, costs would be about $28,000, with a 12-month contract estimated at $73,000.
Graham recommended asking the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for permission to install timers on the aerators to help with ammonia levels although he said he wasn’t sure if it would work.
Council gave permission for him to approach the MOECC.
Power line repairs at the wastewater facility are also required.
Council opted to refer the reports to budget later today for further discussion.
