The Belleville Police Service responded to 55 calls for service between January 12th, 2016 at 5:00 a.m. and January 13th, 2016 at 5:00 a.m.
Accidents
Belleville, Ontario – On January 12th, 2016, officers responded to 17 accidents in a 13-hour period:
At 6:43 a.m. police attended at 345 College Street east in relation to a single vehicle accident. The driver suffered minor injuries, and the car was towed. No charges in this incident.
At 7:02 a.m. police attended in front of the Firehall on West Moira Street in relation to a single vehicle accident. The airbags had been deployed and the car was towed from the scene. There were no injuries; no charges in this incident.
At 7:15 a.m. police attended on College Street West as a car had struck a utility pole. The car was towed, and there was minor damage only to the pole. No injuries; no charges.
At 7:21 a.m. police attended at the intersection of Dundas Street West and Palmer Road in relation to a two-car accident. Belleville Fire Dept. and EMS attended as both drivers suffered minor injuries. Both cars were towed from the intersection. No charges.
At 9:07 a.m. police attended at Pinnacle Street and Market Street as a car had struck a City bus. The driver of the car, a 43-year old Belleville woman, was charged with disobeying a red light. Her car was towed from the scene. There was no damage to the bus.
At 9:53 a.m. police attended on North Front Street in relation to a minor two-car accident. This was referred to the Collision Reporting Centre.
At 9:55 a.m. police attended on College Street East in relation to a minor two-car accident. This was referred to the Collision Reporting Centre.
At 9:56 a.m. police attended on Blessington Road as a single vehicle had gone into the ditch. There were no injuries and there was no damage to the car which was to be towed out later in the day.
At 9:57 a.m. police attended on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road at Loyalist College in relation to a two-car accident. Both drivers required medical attention and were transported to BGH by EMS. Both cars were towed from the scene. An 82-year old Belleville man was charged with disobeying a red light.
At 10:27 a.m. police returned to Blessington Road as another vehicle had entered the ditch. There were no injuries and no apparent damage to the vehicle.
At 1:58 p.m. police attended on Dundas Street West in relation to a minor two-car accident. It was referred to the Collision Reporting Centre.
At 1:59 p.m. police attended on Catharine Street where a minor two-car accident was referred to the Collision Reporting Centre.
At 3:11 p.m. police attended at the corner of Cannifton Road and McFarland Drive as a single vehicle had struck a stop sign and a street sign. This vehicle failed to remain as it fled the scene. A witness provided the officers with the licence plate number of the vehicle. The investigation is continuing.
At 3:33 p.m. police attended on College Street West for a minor two-car accident. It was referred to the Collison Reporting Centre.
At 4:26 p.m. police attended on Old Madoc Road in Thurlow Ward as a pedestrian had been struck by a pick-up truck. The investigation revealed that a 40-year old man had run out onto the roadway in an attempt to save his neighbour’s dog. The man and the dog were both struck by the truck. The dog died at the scene, while the neighbor was taken to BGH with serious injuries to his back, hips, and legs. There were no charges in this incident.
At 4:31 p.m. police attended at a parking lot on Bell Blvd as a parked car had been struck by an unknown hit-and-run vehicle.
At 7:40 p.m. police attended on Bridge Street West at Coleman Street in relation to a two-car accident. One driver reported minor injuries but did not require medical attention. Both cars were towed from the intersection. A 39-year old Belleville man was charged with disobeying a red light.
Break and Enter
Belleville, Ontario – On January 12th, 2016, at 12:56 p.m. police attended at a Foxton Road residence in Thurlow Ward in relation to a break, enter and theft. A large TV was taken from the residence. Traffic Enforcement
Belleville, Ontario – On January 12th, 2016, at 6:31 p.m. an officer on patrol observed a car on Station Street with defective brakelights. A check of the licence plate revealed that the plates had been reported stolen to the Quinte West OPP on January 4th, 2016. The car was stopped and an 18 year old Belleville man was charged with a host of traffic offences including:
-being an unlicenced driver
-using plates not authorized for vehicle
-failing to apply for permit upon becoming owner
-operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.
He will appear in Traffic Court on March 14th, 2016.
Disturbance
Belleville, Ontario – On January 13th, 2016, at 1:55 a.m. police re-attended at 7 Turnbull regarding ongoing issues with a tenant. A 55-year old Belleville man was arrested for breach of the peace. Alcohol was a factor in this incident. No one was injured.
