The City of Belleville has grown in the past few years, and there is much more development planned.
With new development and infrastructure changes, the city’s fire chief wants to hold-off on any
major changes to the fire department until a detailed operational review is undertaken with the help of the
Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.
Chief Mark MacDonald says the city’s Fire Master Plan, passed in 2009, is already out of date because of changing provincial fire regulations and the changing landscape of the city itself.
The chief will suggest council support the gathering of population and infrastructure data in an operational review and then striking a new master plan.
Chief MacDonald says with the new fire headquarters being finished, and a full compliment of personnel, management now has the time to do a thorough review over the next while.
Belleville council will discuss the issue at its Monday meeting.
