Long waiting lists for licensed daycare in Belleville hold steady with plans to build a new centre still on hold.
But executive director of the First Adventure Child Development Centre says the board of directors remain diligent in finding the “perfect” alternative location for a care facility.
Last January, the board announced they were withdrawing their application to the Ontario Municipal Board after city council sided with neighbouring residents not to rezone 47 Maitland Drive in Thurlow for a new daycare.
Debbie Milne couldn’t provide exact waiting list numbers Thursday for Quinte News but she says they aren’t as long as last year – which is still the driving force behind plans for a new centre.
She says they have pregnant parents with unborn children waiting on the infant list which is significantly long. First Adventure only takes six infants at a time and to the the best of her Milne’s knowledge everyone in the City has waiting lists for infants too.
Milne says in the meantime they’ve taken this time to invest in their Bridge Street location that now features a brand new natural playground and in the spring they will be revamping their infant and toddler playground.
