Brighton council hasn’t quite finished it’s capital budget for this year, but it’s close.
Yesterday, council decided to go out to tender on several projects now, even before the final
budget is decided.
Councillor Brian Ostrander says that is a wise move for a smaller community.
Projects going out to tender include a new telephone system, back-up server and $1.4 million worth of road upgrades on Alice and Dundas Streets.
Other decisions made yesterday include money to expand the Butler Creek Trail.
The Brighton Public Library will receive what it asked for in its budget, which will allow it to expand
its hours of operation.
And, council decided to grant $15,000 each to the Trenton, Northumberland, and Campbellford hospital Foundations.
As it stands, Brighton’s draft budget features a 2.3% increase over last year, but the process is not finished.
