The first drop in the welfare caseload in Hastings County since last October.
The social services department says 3,580 people in the county, Belleville and Quinte West got assistance last month, down by 28 from March. The number of people on welfare has been growing each month since October, when it was at just over 34-hundred.
The department says 86-hundred people, including family members and other dependents, relied on social assistance in April. That is 6.6 per cent of the population.
