At least 20 cars were damaged when a downtown Kingston hotel parking lot floor collapsed. A section of the concrete floor collapsed into the basement and some cars slipped down into the crater left behind by the collapse.
Guests at the Confederation Place hotel were evacuated after hearing a loud boom followed by fire alarms at about 8:30 last night. A structural engineer has been called in to determine the integrity of the building so firefighters could complete their search. A fire official says it could take days to determine the cause of the collapse.
Evacuated guests were given a free night’s stay at a nearby hotel.
