The Picton Business Improvement Area’s lobbying efforts have paid off, but barely. Last night, Prince Edward County Council voted to allow wide open shopping on Good Fridays. But the vote was as close as can be, 8 to 7 in favour of being open on Good Friday. Picton Councillor Laverne Bailey was one of the 7 who opposed Good Friday shopping. He believes the big corporations have enough money, and people should have a holiday. Some Prince Edward County merchants saw being open Good Friday’s as important to keep tourist dollars coming into local business, especially as the selling season is short for many Prince Edward County businesses.
