The price of clean-up and restructuring Belleville’s Meyers Pier area has jumped…but it won’t cost the city an extra cent. Two years ago Belleville and Ottawa agreed the city would take over ownership once the industrial contamination from years ago was cleaned up. The federal and provincial governments paid two thirds of the 15-million dollar cost, with Belleville’s share at five million. Director of Recreation Mark Fluhrer, managing the project, says another half million is required to address some infrastructure issues…this will be picked up by Ottawa. An amended agreement will be prepared for City Council’s approval.
