Once again the city police budget caused a heated debate at Belleville City Council. Last month, the police budget was sent back for cuts. It came back yesterday with a 6.6 percent increase, and 50-thousand dollars added from the city budget for headquarters building repairs. Councillor Taso Christopher was furious and objected to the fact it came attached to the city budget so to object to the police figures he had to vote against the city’s 2010 budget. He questioned why police officials didn’t make some of the necessary furnace and accessibility repairs with the 600-thousand dollars they received 20-months ago. The two budgets passed on a recorded vote of 7-to-2 with Councillors Tom Lafferty and Christopher voting No.
