Madoc Township council may make people responsible for grass fires caused by outdoor burning pay for the cost of putting them out.
A March 27th fire on Harts Road cost the fire department almost eight-thousand dollars. Chief Administrative Officer Bill Lebow said the fire, which spread across 25 to 30 acres, was allegedly caused by a small fire left unattended. He said the township’s fire bylaw allows charging the property owner for firefighting services. Council will consider establishing a policy to recover costs.
