The Hastings-Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health is critical of the timing of the 37-million dollar federal advertising and communications blitz about the H1N1 flu.
Doctor Richard Schabas says much of that came after last fall’s epidemic had peaked, urging Canadians to get flu shots at a time when they were virtually pointless. Schabas, a critic of the government’s response to H1N1, says he found the persistence of the immunization program and the advertising after the outbreak had passed to be the most offensive. He also said public health units probably spent 15 dollars for each of the 25-million doses of vaccine they administered in immunization clinics.
