Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis says he’s “proud” of the city’s 68-point-seven million dollar budget that kept tax increases just above or just below one percent…with a “decrease” for taxpayers in the Thurlow Rural area. Mayor Ellis says council added a new fire inspector and bylaw officer, and more money for road maintenance as well… He says about a dozen roads will be done along with two bridges are included in the 2010 budget. The average tax increase, including education, is as follows: Belleville Ward one-point-four percent, Canifton Urban one-point-three, Cannifton Rural point eight-five, and Thurlow Rural a decrease of point three six percent.
