It’s always interesting if it’s about the Moniz family and Belleville.
Yesterday, Robert Moniz walked out of a Belleville court smiling after having charges of stealing a Mercedes Benz dropped.
It turns out that car was partially owned by the Moniz family, along with a business associate, a woman from Quebec.
The woman was concerned about Robert Moniz, worrying he might be dead, after not being able to reach him for weeks, and Quebec police advised her to report it stolen to aid in the search.
Robert Moniz, and handyman Luis Ferrigno, were arrested by Belleville Police near City Hall January 25th.
Yesterday, Judge Stephen Hunter said a theft couldn’t occur when one partially owns something.
The Moniz family have become local celebrities with their well documented run ins with Belleville Council regarding plans for the former Doc’s Palace on Station Street.
