An outdoor burning ban is in effect in Madoc Township.
Fire Chief Darren Morrison says there have been several grass fires in the past few days, including a very large one on Saturday night.
He says the dry conditions, caused by little rain this month, make it easy for fires to spread quickly, and it’s difficult to get large amounts of water because most of the lakes are still ice-covered. The ban will be lifted once the area gets some precipitation.
