A Prince Edward County Councillor wants to discuss the honorariums and fees paid to members of council, and some public members on council committees. Monica Alyea, who is running for Mayor in the upcoming municipal election, says paying councillors and other committee members even when they aren’t present at meetings might not be the best way to spend taxpayer dollars. Alyea says she will bring the matter up at a future Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole meeting. Currently, County Councillors and Police Board members receive payment, no matter whether they’re at meetings, or not. Alyea says attendance should matter, and good attendance leads to better decision making.
