Waste Management says it will close its Napanee-area landfill site by the middle of 2011.
It made that announcement after reaching an agreement with the Environment Ministry.
The Manager of the Richmond Landfill, Randy Harris, says the community will be consulted on possible future uses for the closed site, and landfill capping and cover material will be put in place to prepare for the target date of June 30th next year. He hopes the closure will lead to a smooth transition to the proposed new Beechwood Road Environmental Centre, which was unveiled several weeks ago.
