Residents of a township north of Napanee are concerned about plans for seven new solar farms, but a Belleville businessman says he’s all for the project the same company has for a property in Thurlow.
Stone Mills residents at a public meeting told a Toronto engineering company, representing Effisolar Energy of British Columbia they were worried about reduced property values, fencing, endangered species and other issues. However, John Morton, who runs a crane rental business out of his home on Mitchell Road, near the proposed Old Highway two site in Belleville, says the facilities don’t hurt land values, and serve a great purpose in supplying green energy. Open houses have been held in Belleville, Napanee and Stone Mills over the past week, describing Effisolar’s plans for solar farms, with 52-thousand panels each, in the three communities.
