Belleville businesses with repeat false alarms to the fire department could soon be paying the price.
A report from Fire Chief Rheaume Chaput will ask City council tonight to implement a false alarm bylaw to reduce the number of unncessary calls. He says firefighters responded to 232 automatic false alarms to institutions, hospitals, and commercial and industrial facilities last year, and many of the calls are avoidable.
Fees would be charged, on an escalating basis, to those businesses with an unusual number of incidents.
