There’s still time to get it lower, but if Quinte West Council passed a draft budget presented last night, the average tax increase in the city would be 1.96 percent. The increase varies from ward to ward, with Trenton seeing the least increase, and Murray the highest. The draft budget will go back to Committees and Council, and a final budget for this year should be passed next month. Mayor John Williams says he’s happy with an increase under 2 percent, adding the staff re organization that occurred in recent months has cut costs for Quinte West.
