Firefighters were a young deer’s best friends in Campbellford.
Fire Chief Tim Blake says two members of the department, dressed in wet suits, entered the frigid waters of the Trent River near Grand Road at seven o’clock this morning after a woman spotted a doe that had fallen through the ice.
The firefighters pulled the animal to shore, and took it to the fire hall to get warmed up. The next stop was a veterinarian’s for treatment of a cut to its leg, and then the deer will be released back into the wild.
