The dramatic rescue of passengers from a Canadian sailing ship that sank off the coast of Brazil has a local link.
Earl Tripp, of Quinte West, says his grandson, Jamie, was aboard the ship when it went down. Tripp says Jamie called home yesterday (SAT).
The SV Concordia, a three-masted vessel, went down Wednesday in rough seas. The Brazilian navy says a distress signal was picked up Thursday, and an Air Force plane later spotted life rafts in waters about 500 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro.
The Canadians are due to return to home soil around midday tomorrow.
