A major new dental program for low income families could be coming to Hastings and Prince Edward counties this year.
For years public health dental officer Dr. Bill Ryder, has been battling to bring “preventive” dental service to children whose families can’t afford it. The present one only offers emergency treatment. Now he has applied for a two-million dollar a year clinic plan, part of a new provincial program. He says it’s particularly important for the dental health of children three and younger. Belleville Councillor Bob Dolan questioned the cost…600-dollars a child for three-thousand children…but Ryder says it would help prevent treatment costs.
