The demolition of seven buildings in downtown Picton, making way for the new Shoppers Drug Mart, is expected to begin within the next week.
Prince Edward County Chief Building Official Garry Davis says seven demolition permits were issued to the drug store chain last month, and heavy equipment is moving on to the site at Main and Washburn Streets this week. The combination of vacant commercial buildings and houses will be removed over the next few weeks, but a date for construction of the store to start hasn’t yet been set.
The new Shoppers Drug Mart is expected to occupy 17-thousand square feet when it is completed..
