Transportation for patients to and from medical appointments needs to be more co ordinated, and the system could use more volunteers.
That’s the opinion of those working on medical transportation in this part of Ontario.
The Southeast Local Health Integration Network will issue a plan in April to work toward better communication between health care sectors on transportation.
Some sectors are well served now, but others are not. There are 3 groups of patients who have a lot of trouble getting transportation…they are those with mental health problems, addiction issues, and those people who have trouble getting around.
