Negotiations continue today trying to reach a new contract and avert a strike by teachers at Loyalist and Ontario’s 23 other community colleges.
OPSEU Local 4-20 President Bernie Belanger at Loyalist says college negotiators offered yesterday to reduce the length of the contract from four to three years, but he isn’t optimistic that will bring the two sides closer together.
The nine-thousand college instructors gave their union the green light to strike when 57 per cent of members who voted earlier this month supported walking off the job. There would be no strike action until mid-February at the earliest.
