It was a horrifying incident for residents in a Belleville highrise apartment unit early yesterday. The fire alarm was pulled by residents of unit 704 at 191 Palmer Road, just before 3am yesterday, after a fire started on the balcony of their 7th floor unit and spread to the inside of their apartment. The entire building was evacuated and firefighters contained the blaze to the one unit. The cause has been deemed as accidental…but, Fire Chief Ray Chaput says the investigation is continuing. The man, woman and two small children are the only tenants still affected….and, they’re currently living with friends. Chief Chaput praised outside agencies including adminstrative staff at neighboring Centennial Secondary School where evacuees were temporarily located…as well as, City Transit, Red Cross, and City Police for their quick and professional response.
