Stirling-Rawdon Township has joined Brighton in challenging other municipalities to help Haitian relief efforts, but has a lot more money in mind.
Brighton Council decided to give a dime to the Red Cross for each resident of the municipality, or eleven-hundred dollars, and it wants other Ontario towns and cities to match that amount.
Stirling-Rawdon Mayor Peter Kooistra didn’t recommend council donate money now, but said each municipality should commit one dollar for each resident, or five-thousand dollars for his township. His suggestion will be discussed at the next finance and personnel committee meeting.
