Unionized workers for Hastings County will issue a strike deadline if a deal isn’t reached duing conciliation on Friday. Local OPSEU President Diane Dejong represents the 180 Social Services workers, EMS clerical staff and many other employees who’ve been working without a contract for more than a year. She says the members would be satisfied with a modest wage increase and improvements to their benefits and work life. She says the County’s upper management earning more than 100-thousand dollars recieved wage increases of between 7 and 21-percent in 2008 and another 2-percent last year. The union voted 87-percent in favour of strike action at a meeting last week.
