The case of a missing snowmobiler in the Haliburton Highlands has ended tragically.
OPP say 43-year-old Scott Hartley died on New Year’s Day when his snow machine went through the ice.
The incident happened on Redstone Lake around 10 that night.
Police say Hartley was rescued by friends; but as the men crawled their way to safety, Hartley stood up on the thin ice and fell through again, disappearing from sight.
The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit recovered Hartley’s body yesterday (SAT).
Police say ice conditions on regional lakes are still unsafe for snowmobiling.
