The city of Belleville is taking over responsibility for a number of bylaws from the Police Services Board. The bylaws regulate issues that have to do with “community standards.” In a report to council, former administrator Steve Hyndman said this approach was used in the case of the adult entertainment and body rub parlours, where council made the bylaw, and police enforce it. The bylaws being transferred include salvage yards, second hand shops, and taxis. Hyndman says the city solicitor has prepared a draft bylaw to regulate taxis…others will come to council at a later date.
