Five Toronto-area men have been charged with the gunpoint robbery of a trucker in Belleville and the theft of his load of frozen chicken feet.
Peel Region Police arrested the five on November 18th, and charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, kidnapping and use of an imitation firearm were laid. A 51-year-old Saint Catharines man was parked at Quinte Mall the evening of July 21st, with 25-thousand kilograms of chicken he was taking to Montreal from Toronto, when a man broke into the cab, pointed a hand gun and bound the victim’s legs, arms and hands.
The man and two other suspects drove away with the transport while the victim was still lying in the back of the cab. The trailer was dropped at an unknown location and the suspects drove the cab to a different place in Markham, where they got out and left in a vehicle. The trucker was able to get free and asked for help from police. The arrests came after Belleville Police became involved in a joint investigation with officials in Peel Region.
