Almost no one is using it in the cold weather, so Prince Edward County Council will close the landfill site in Hillier ward. As few as 3 people per day use the Hillier dump in the winter, and County Council expects to save almost 10 thousand dollars by closing it from January 6 to April 21st.
Meanwhile, Prince Edward County has set aside 100 thousand dollars in next year’s budget to work on landfills in Ameliasburg and South Marysburg. The Ministry of Environment has concerns about buffers and possible surface water contamination.
