A former Belleville mayor has been fined 24-thousand dollars and put on two years probation for six fire code violations.
Fire Prevention Officer Lyle Quennell told our newsroom George Zegouras, who is 72, pleaded guilty in Belleville Provincial Court today to failing to keep working smoke alarms in place at his rental property at 51 Victoria Avenue and other contraventions of the code. Quennell says the fire department doesn’t just go out there and lay charges….adding it becomes an issue when a landowner is “delinquent, repeatedly”.
