Belleville City Council has rejected plans for the proposed joint archive facility…to be housed in the former Irish Hall. Last night, a motion to hire an architect for renovations, and a full-time archivist at 61-to-73-thousand dollars, went down to defeat on a tied vote with Councillors Denyes, Dolan, Christopher and Lafferty voting against. Councillor Jack Miller said council had deferred the matter two weeks ago for archivist salary details and got them last night. He says the bottom line is they have the building. Mayor Neil Ellis says the city has the building but he doesn’t know what happens now. Hastings County has already approved the plans.
