Hastings-Quinte paramedics may soon be taking part in research into ambulance transfer of certain kind of stroke victims to hospital. The Ontario Stroke Network has put up 100-thousand dollars for the research. Director of Emergency Services Doug Socha told the Emergency Services committee that he has joined with nine others in Eastern Ontario to apply for the research project. He says the idea is to get the patient to the hospital within two hours so a special drug can be administered. Socha says if the call doesn’t meet the criteria the stroke patient is taken to the nearest hospItal.
