The Health Unit has received nearly six thousand dollars to implement ‘Helmets for kids’.
The program was designed to reduce the risk of head injuries by offering C-S-A approved hockey helmets to children participating in recreational school skating activities.
Public health nurse Cindy Kirkpatrick says helmets with face masks are preferable as the majority of skating falls are forward, thus exposing the face to injury.
