The union representing Registered Practical Nurses at Quinte Health Care accuses the Ontario Hospital Association of killing a plan to help hospitals keep R-P-N’s.
The Services Employees International Union says the C-E-O’s of 37 hospitals, including the four local facilities, wouldn’t cooperate with each other at closed door talks with the union.
The negotiations collapsed last night, and the S-E-I-U claimed the C-E-O’s were more interested in gaining an edge over other hospitals than cooperating to save health system dollars.
The union says its plan would have created a more level playing field among hospitals trying to attract nurses and would have established a new system for nurses to sound the alarm when shortages threaten patient care.
