Some Belleville councillors are calling for a halt to what some call a “fighting sign frenzy” along city streets. Councillor Bob Dolan says the signs for two battling roofing companies are nailed to telelphone poles, fences, and pasted on the sides of buildings. Dolan says businesses have to pay a “sign inspection” fee and maybe it’s time to start charging fees for signs stuck on private prperty. Then people might not be so ready to have signs on their property. Director of Operational Services Brad Wilson says last week city crews picked up 70-signs in a night-time blitz. Wilson says his department will continue to monitor the situation.
