The national day of “action against violence against women” will be marked locally by a forum at Loyalist College. It’s twenty years since Marc Lapine shot and killed fourteen women just because they were women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. Last night, Pam Havrey of the Three Oaks Shelter told City Council last night that 486 women have been killed in Ontario alone since then. She says the local shelter hellped 163-women and 63 children last year. Havrey says there’s still a need for more public education on the issue. The National Day of Action is December 6th.
