Belleville wants some action on the closing of a dump closer to home before it throws its support behind a campaign to close a Napanee area landfill. Last night, City Council was considering a request from Tyendinaga Townshiip to support its call to trhe province to shutdown the Richmond Landfill which it says is leaching contaminates into area groundwater. Councillor Dolan questioned why the Township didn’t pressure Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte to close the dump at the end of the Deseronto runway which he says is leaching contaminates into the water as well. Council withheld its support on the Richmond campaign awaiting action on the airport area dump.
