Belleville’s Director of Recreation services is recommending city council award the project manager’s contract for the new rec-plex to a local company….despite the fact it didn’t submit the lowest tender. Mark Flurhrer says due to the complexity of the multi-plex project he’s recommending the 400-thousand dollar price submitted by Task Force Engineering be approved. The city received two-thirds funding from senior levels of government for the 35-million dollar Quinte Sports Centre expansion, the Mary Ann Sills Park development and the new pavillion at West Zwick’s Park. The Task Force bid is 4th highest and 130-thousand dollars more than the lowest tender….but, Fluhrer says it is critical they hire a qualified team to manage the projects.
