The Ontario Nurses Association continues its fight with the Hastings and Prince Edward health Unit regarding the provision of special N-95 respirators for nurses at immunizaton clinics.
President Linda Haslam-Stroud says the Ministry of Labour is still considering an appeal by Medical Officer of Health Dr. Richard Schabas regarding the provision of the special masks. The masks are available for nurses wanting them. Meanwhile Haslam-Stroud says Dr. Schabas and some of his colleagues are putting health care staff at risk by “downplaying the H1N1 pandemic.” She says the Medical Officer of Health has been given too much of a “platform for his outrageous opinons that fly in the face of science.”
