A few Quinte area municipalities are planning to take advantage of a new provincial program to keep hazardous electronic waste out of their dump sites. The program is aimed at the graveyard of electronics that builds up in the average household…such as cast aside TVs, computer monitors, and keyboards. Jennifer Salutari of Quinte Waste Solutions says toxins are released into the landfills when this waste is crushed. Deputy Reeve Gordon Benson says Tweed has a site awaiting approval by the ministry of environment. The province will pay 165-dollars a tonne for what it picks up. The prgram will be expanded to other electronics next spring.
