Two police officers testified at the Michelle Barnoski murder trial yesterday in Peterborough. and, one of them admits he lied to the accused teenager to learn more about the Warkworth woman’s death. The Northumberland News reports Detective Sergeant Paul Baldassare Nuccio, of the Professional Standards branch of the OPP, told defense counsel he sometimes made up stories to gain the teen’s confidence. The now 16-year-old’s charge was later upgraded to first-degree murder. Earlier in the day, Detective Constable Vern Crowley was cross-examined regarding the contents of a computer seized from the Warkworth home. Crowley confirmed the user ‘greenmaryjane@hotmail.com’, one of Barnoski’s email addresses, signed off on May 27, 2008. Her body was found buried in her backyard 16-days later with eight gun shot wounds. The trial continues tomorrow.
